Elementary Science Olympiad

Elementary Science Olympiad (SO) is a long-standing, non-competitive event hosted by Berrien RESA.

The Brandywine Elementary SO team is comprised of 20-30 students from grades three, four, and five. Selected students travel to Lake Michigan College, and join students from across Berrien County, rotating through hands-on science activities. Activities include Cookie Mining, where students mine the chocolate chips out of cookies, and after measuring, they calculate the percent of chocolate chips in the cookie.

There are also engineering and design events, such as Ping Pong Flinger, where students design, build, and test a ping pong ball launcher, and the team with the most points after three flings wins! This is a wonderful, enrichment opportunity for students who demonstrate curiosity about science and a love of learning.
